Prayag United S.C.
Prayag United S.C. is an Indian football Club from Kolkata in West Bengal, India. The club currently plays in the I-League.
History
1927-2009
Prayag United S.C. was originally established in 1927 as Eveready Association. In 2006, it was renamed as United Sports Club to attract title sponsor and the football division owned by United Sport Football Team Private Ltd.[1] With the inflow of sponsorship, the club clinched promotion to the first division of the I-League in 2007.
2010-Present
For the 2010-11 I-League season United SC played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. On Indian Transfer deadline day United SC made the biggest headline news by signing India national football team striker Sunil Chhetri till the end of the season. In June 2011 after the I-League season ended old sponsors Chirag choose to cut ties with United SC and thus Chirag United SC became United Sports Club. Even though the team has lost a lot in terms of sponsorship money the club is still able to sign and retain there current players. On August 3rd 2011 it was announced that United Sports Club has signed a sponsorship deal with Prayag Group and on August 7th 2011 United Sports Club officially changed there name to Prayag United S.C. Crest
The Prayag United crest is designed in the shape of a blue and white circle. The logo includes the words United Sports Club in the blue strip of the crest. This is to show United Sports Club as the main name of the club. Inside the crest is a peacock on top of a football.
Colors
While the crest is Blue and White the official colors of Prayag United are purple and yellow. While still sponsored and owned by Chirag Computers, United Sports Club's official colors were purple and white. The home kit for Prayag includes a purple and yellow jersey with purple shorts and white socks while the away kit is all white with red socks.
Stadium
Prayag United Sports Club currently play at the 120,000 seater Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. At first though Prayag United Sports Club said that they would move on the Siliguri but now it seems that they might stay in Kolkata for the 2011-12 season and will move during the 2012-13 season. [3]
